EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION:           Executive Director of disAbility Connections, Inc. and disAbility Connections Foundation of Jackson County.

SUMMARY:          The Executive Director of disAbility Connections, Inc. and the disAbility Connections Foundation of Jackson County, oversees the planning and implementation of the strategic direction to accomplish the mission of the organizations.  Performs duties as assigned by the Boards.  Oversees staff, programs and services provided.  Develops and maintains the solid financial position of both organizations.  Builds and maintains relationships at the local, state, federal level with governmental entities, legislators, community organizations and businesses.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  •        Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, or finance
  •        7+ years of senior management experience, preferably with a nonprofit
  •        Strong public relations, marketing, and fundraising experience
  •        Knowledge of leadership and management principles related to nonprofits
  •        Proven success working with a board of directors
  •        Commitment to values of disability rights movement.
  •        Entrepreneurial mindset, with innovative approach to business planning
  •        Dynamic and charismatic team player who enjoys being the public face of an organization

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  •       Master’s Degree in related field
  •       Experience managing budgets
  •       Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:   

  • Work closely with board of directors and committees, informing, assessing, and addressing issues that affect the organization
  • Oversee the daily operations of the organization, providing executive direction of all program strategy, compliance, quality assurance, and program efficiency
  • Identify and implement staffing requirements for efficient operations, maintaining a strong culture and work climate that attracts and retains staff, and drives the organization’s mission
  • Represent the organization and increase awareness by being the spokesperson and liaison with local media
  • Advocate for with disabilities and their families in the local community and throughout the state.
  • Active participation in Disability Network/Michigan, partnering on efforts advancing the mission of disAbility Connections and the Network, for the benefit of the people in our community and across the state.
  • Serve as the face of the organization and actively participate in external events, both increasing visibility, credibility, and developing strategic partnerships in order to increase community awareness and expand the program
  • Oversee development of an annual budget and the ongoing financial stability of the organizations
  • Comply with all federal, state, and local regulations and funder requirements

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create complete business plans for the attainment of goals and objectives set working alongside the board of directors
  • Serve as a Rotarian in the Rotary Club of Jackson.
  • Work with staff and board on annual benefit and fundraising events,
  • Oversee all external communication materials including, website, marketing materials, newsletters and social media content
  • Build and lead an effective team dedicated to fulfilling the organization’s mission through highly successful program implementation, community engagement, and maintaining a stable financial position
  • Manage a culturally diverse staff, clientele and community whose skills, cultures and spoken languages reflect the communities served

IMPORTANT SKILLS AND CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Must have the ability to relate and interact with a wide variety of people and agencies.
  • Must be well organized and able to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to values of disability rights movement.
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite programs or equivalent.
  • Personal experience with disability preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  This job requires the ability to perform the essential functions contained in this job description.  These include but are not limited to the following requirements:

  • Ability to perform office duties with or without accommodations.
  • Ability to regularly travel throughout the community and to other meetings across the state meetings.
